Colt Single Action Army 1st Generation Revolver .41 Colt – 1901 Manufacture, 4¾" Barrel, Rampant Colt Grips Includes Ammo and Dies
Lot 125
Colt Single Action Army 1st Generation Revolver .41 Colt – 1901 Manufacture, 4¾" Barrel, Rampant Colt Grips Includes Ammo and Dies

This is a genuine 1st Generation Colt Single Action Army revolver chambered in .41 Colt, manufactured in 1901 per serial number research. The SAA — known as the Peacemaker — is one of the most iconic and collectible American revolvers ever produced, and this example represents the classic frontier-era configuration. The revolver features a 4¾" barrel, the most popular length among working cowboys and lawmen of the era. The barrel is marked ".41 COLT" and the gun retains its original black checkered hard rubber grips with the Rampant Colt medallion intact on both panels. The finish shows honest age-appropriate patina and wear consistent with a 120+ year old firearm, giving this piece the authentic character collectors prize over refinished examples. This is a 1st Generation SAA, produced during Colt's original uninterrupted production run of 1873–1940. The .41 Colt chambering is less common than the .45 Colt or .44-40, adding to its collector appeal. Transfer Note: Despite its age, this firearm was manufactured after December 31, 1898 and is therefore classified as a modern firearm. Transfer requires a standard FFL process including Form 4473 and NICS background check. Winner must transfer through a licensed dealer. SN: 213812 GSM ID: 26060120

ames Warner Patent Civil War Breech-Loading Carbine – .50 Rimfire – Springfield, Massachusetts
Lot 73
ames Warner Patent Civil War Breech-Loading Carbine – .50 Rimfire – Springfield, Massachusetts

Early Civil War Era *No Background Check*

Designed by noted firearms inventor James Warner of Springfield, Massachusetts, the Warner Carbine is one of the scarcer Union cavalry carbines produced during the American Civil War. Introduced in 1864, it represents the rapid technological shift from muzzle-loading arms to metallic cartridge breech-loading firearms that transformed military small arms during the war.

This example is marked:

"JAMES WARNER SPRINGFIELD, MASS."
"WARNER'S PATENT"

These markings identify the rifle as a Warner Patent Carbine manufactured during the Civil War period. James Warner was an experienced firearms designer who had previously worked with Eli Whitney and later served as superintendent of the Springfield Arms Company before developing his innovative breech-loading carbine.

Unlike traditional muzzle-loading muskets of the era, the Warner utilized a hinged breechblock allowing the shooter to load a metallic cartridge directly into the chamber. The design featured a brass receiver, iron barrel, walnut stock, and distinctive saddle ring for cavalry carry. The falling hammer locked the breech closed during firing, an innovative feature covered under Warner's patents.

Only approximately 1,501 Warner Carbines were manufactured for U.S. military contracts, making them among the scarcer Civil War-issued cavalry carbines encountered today. Most were produced in 1864 by the Massachusetts Arms Company for Union cavalry service. Their limited production, distinctive brass receiver, and unique operating mechanism have made them highly sought after by Civil War collectors and students of early American firearms development.

Features

  • Manufacturer: James Warner / Massachusetts Arms Company
  • Model: Warner Patent Carbine
  • Caliber: .50 Rimfire (original chambering)
  • Single-shot breech-loading action
  • Brass receiver
  • Iron barrel
  • Walnut stock and forearm
  • Saddle ring mounted on left side
  • Civil War era manufacture
  • Receiver marked "JAMES WARNER SPRINGFIELD, MASS. / WARNER'S PATENT"

The Warner Carbine occupies an important place in American firearms history as one of the earliest successful metallic cartridge military carbines adopted by the U.S. government. Its limited production, innovative design, and direct association with the Union cavalry make it a standout addition to any Civil War, antique firearms, or early American military collection.

Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 Antique Top-Break Revolver – .44 Russian – SN 27731

Manufactured: 1892-1895 S/N: 27731

The Smith & Wesson New Model No. 3 stands among the most influential revolvers ever produced. Introduced in 1878, it represented the culmination of Smith & Wesson's famous No. 3 top-break revolver series and became one of the finest large-frame single-action revolvers of the late 19th century. Renowned for its strength, reliability, and innovative automatic extraction system, the New Model No. 3 earned worldwide recognition among military organizations, law enforcement agencies, target shooters, frontiersmen, and sportsmen alike.

This example is chambered in the historically significant .44 Russian cartridge. Developed jointly by Smith & Wesson and the Imperial Russian military in the early 1870s, the .44 Russian introduced an internally lubricated bullet design that dramatically improved accuracy and reduced fouling. The cartridge became one of the most accurate revolver cartridges of its era and later served as the direct predecessor to both the .44 Special and the legendary .44 Magnum, securing its place in firearms history.

Unlike modern swing-out cylinder revolvers, the New Model No. 3 features Smith & Wesson's revolutionary top-break action. Depressing the barrel latch allows the barrel and cylinder assembly to pivot downward, simultaneously activating the automatic star extractor that ejects all spent cartridges at once. This system made the No. 3 one of the fastest revolvers to reload during its time and represented a major advancement in revolver technology.

Manufactured in Springfield, Massachusetts, this revolver bears the correct Smith & Wesson barrel address and patent markings of the period and remains an excellent example of the company's renowned 19th-century craftsmanship. The revolver features a blued steel finish, fluted six-shot cylinder, walnut grips, and the classic large-frame profile that made the No. 3 famous throughout the American West and abroad.

The New Model No. 3 was produced in relatively limited numbers compared to later Smith & Wesson revolvers and remains highly desirable among collectors of Old West firearms, antique revolvers, early Smith & Wesson firearms, and historically significant American handguns. Its innovative engineering and direct connection to the development of the modern .44-caliber revolver family make it an important addition to any advanced firearms collection.
