DOORS WILL OPEN AT 4PM FOR PREVIEW LOCATED AT 1700 RAINBOW DRIVE, CANON CITY, CO, 81212 LIVE AUCTION WILL START AT 5PM
Non-firearm items (ammo, knives, accessories) are picked up at our building, 1700 Rainbow Drive, Cañon City. The pickup day and times will be posted here and emailed to winning bidders. Pickup is by appointment.
Firearm release dates can't be set ahead of time. Colorado requires a three-day (72-hour) wait after your background check is submitted, so your release time depends on when your check is started. See Lot 0D.
Can't make it? Email [email protected] before your scheduled time with your name and what's going on. We work with people who tell us ahead of time.
Items not picked up are charged storage of $10 per lot, per day, starting the morning after pickup day, to the card on file. Anything still here at close of business on the third day after pickup day is considered abandoned and may be resold or disposed of.
Firearms work differently. Colorado law says we can't hand you a gun on pickup day. See Lot 0D.
Colorado Senate Bill 25-003 took effect August 1, 2026. To buy a "Specified Semiautomatic Firearm" in Colorado, you must hold a valid Firearms Eligibility Card from your county sheriff. We are required to confirm your card in the state system before we can transfer the firearm. We can't make exceptions.
What's covered: generally, semiautomatic rifles and shotguns that take a detachable magazine, and gas-operated semiautomatic pistols that take a detachable magazine. Generally not covered: bolt, lever, pump, and slide actions; most recoil-operated handguns; .22-caliber-or-smaller rimfire guns (unless they have a separate upper and lower receiver); and semiautos with a permanently fixed magazine of 15 rounds or fewer. The state's list of models is not complete — the law is what controls.
It's on you to check. We've marked the lots we believe are covered with "COLORADO BUYERS: SB25-003 APPLIES TO THIS FIREARM" at the top of the description. That's a courtesy, not a guarantee — if a lot isn't marked, that doesn't mean it's exempt. Before you bid, make sure you know whether the gun falls under SB25-003 and whether you're eligible to buy it. If you're not sure, call us before the sale — not after.
Getting the card takes time. You have to pass a Colorado Parks and Wildlife-approved course (4 hours if you've completed hunter education, 12 hours over two days if you haven't), then apply through your county sheriff. The card is good for five years. This can't be done between the auction and pickup.
We will not hold a firearm while you take the class. If you win a covered firearm and can't show a valid eligibility card when you come in to do your paperwork, we can't transfer it to you. It will be handled under the "If you cannot take delivery of a firearm" section of our terms, which includes resale and a minimum $250 charge.
By bidding on a covered firearm, you're telling us you already hold a valid eligibility card and can legally take delivery. No card, no bid.
Out-of-state buyers shipping to an FFL in their home state: your own state's laws apply. Questions? Call 719-275-1439 before you bid.
Preview will be at 1700 Rainbow Drive, Cañon City. The date and time will be posted here and emailed to registered bidders. We strongly recommend it. If you want to check bores, actions, markings, or measurements, this is your chance.
Everything sells AS IS, WHERE IS, with no warranties or guarantees of any kind, express or implied. All sales are final. It's your responsibility to inspect anything you bid on.
Questions? Call Alan or Dalton at 719-275-1439.
Colorado law requires a mandatory three-day (72-hour) waiting period after your background check is submitted before we can release any firearm, even if the check clears right away. That's state law, not our policy. Nobody leaves with a gun on auction day.
Background checks: we start them right after the auction ends on Tuesday, October 13 for anyone here in person, and pick back up on Wednesday, October 14. Come in with a valid photo ID, fill out your ATF Form 4473, and we'll submit your check. If you won a firearm marked SB25-003, bring your Colorado eligibility card too (see Lot 0G).
Release: because the three days start when your check is submitted, we can't publish a firearm pickup date ahead of time. Once your wait is up and you're approved, we'll call you to set a release time. No storage is charged during the waiting period. If you don't collect within seven days after we call, normal storage applies. If you don't come in to start your background check, normal storage and abandonment terms apply.
Ammo, knives, and accessories go home on pickup day. Bring your own boxes and help. Woolsey Auction Company is not responsible for damage to your property or injuries during pickup.
A 12% buyer's premium is added to every winning bid. Pay in person with cash, check, or money order by 4:30 PM on pickup day and you get a 2% discount — a 10% buyer's premium.
Sales tax applies, plus Colorado's 6.5% excise tax on firearms and ammunition (see Lot 0E). Invoices are emailed within 12 hours of the sale.
Online self-payment is capped at $1,500. Over that, call us to arrange cash, wire, or other payment.
Any invoice not paid by 4:30 PM on pickup day is charged automatically to the card on file at the 12% premium. Keep your card current. A declined card is a $30 fee, a returned check is $20. Unpaid balances not settled within 24 hours of a failed charge lose bidding privileges.
Colorado charges a 6.5% excise tax on firearms, firearm precursor parts (frames, receivers, and kits), and ammunition sold to Colorado buyers. It shows on your invoice separately from sales tax.
Exempt: peace officers, active-duty U.S. military, and law enforcement agencies. Email Colorado Form DR 7612 to [email protected] before pickup day. No form on file, the tax is charged.
Out-of-state buyers shipping to an FFL in their home state do not pay this tax. Questions? Call 719-275-1439.
Firearms can be shipped to a licensed FFL dealer. Out-of-state buyers must ship to an FFL in their own state. Email a copy of the receiving FFL's license to [email protected] as soon as the auction closes.
Shipping is handled through Shipping Saint and billed separately at cost — packaging, freight, and insurance.
We will not ship black powder. No exceptions. We ship ammunition, but not to California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, or Washington, D.C.
If we can't legally ship or transfer a firearm you won, it's handled under the "If you cannot take delivery of a firearm" section of our terms.
